Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...
Rachel is a painter and currently one of the artists in residence at The Pound Arts Centre in Corsham. Inspired by natural forms and phenomena, Rachel describes her work as “an intuitive response in colour and composition”.
Exploring a variety of paint and techniques, she aims to capture the essence of organic pattern in her large abstract paintings. Part of Rachel's process involves pouring diluted paint on to the canvas, which she tilts, using gravity to move the liquid over the surface. Over time the layers build up and branch like formations appear, emulating natural growth and a sense of time passing.
As part of Rachel’s residency at The Pound she has led a variety of workshops for all ages from drawing live chickens to painting with mops! She also spends her time working on commissions and developing her practice, whilst currently planning and preparing for her show at The Pound next spring.
