Maker Spotlight - Philippa Macarthur

Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...

Philippa is a ceramicist and sculptor, working with clay to create shapes and textures, combined with found wood and metal objects.

She works from home in a tiny converted out house, where her clay and kiln are, but she also has a yard full of found metal, wood and stone, which she uses either as inspiration for her work, or alongside it, to complete a piece.

Philippa has always been a maker from childhood and has spent her spare time attending evening classes and workshops. She has also completed a two year Design and Crafts course at Bath College as well as a further year at Bath College, learning to weld.

She is always learning and particularly in her work, there are often 'engineering' challenges to be overcome! There is no typical day in her studio, which she describes as a,” tiny, terrible muddle, H&S hazards everywhere”. But it is her space and her muddle and no-one else is allowed in!
