Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...
Helen has dabbled in various art forms and enjoys using yarn in a novel way.
After 50 years of knitting jumpers, hats and scarves she wanted to do something different, hence the ‘yarn art’ creatures.
A typical day for Helen involves messing about with papier-mache, canvasses, paint and yarn. She is self-taught and after buying a couple of ready made shapes to decorate, she then started making my own as she couldn't buy what she was dreaming up.
Helen doesn’t make to sell, she just enjoys the creative process – “having a vision and bringing it to fruition”. She is inspired by the humble ball of wool being transformed into 'art', but like many artists, there is never enough time to make everything she has in her head.
She loves being involved in local arts and helping other artists showcase their work. She is most looking forward to promoting Chippenham as an arts venue and meeting and seeing the work of other local artists.
