Maker Spotlights: each day we will be focusing on individual exhibitors, exploring their work and finding out what makes them tick...
Ali Haynes is a busy lady – as a wife, mum and business owner, her art has always taken a back seat.
Now with a stable business and kids at school, Ali has been able to continue with the work she started many years ago.
Ali studied Fine Art at Plymouth College of Art and Design, before heading to Swindon to complete a 2 year HND in Illustration. Painting was always a ‘hobby’ that she knew when the time was right she could come back to.
Returning to her art, Ali has found that her preferred medium is oil paints, although she has been known to play with acrylic, and many sketches are with pastel pencils. Inspired by what she sees around her, much of her work is thick with colour and paint creating a textured finish. Her favourite tool is a pallet knife due to, “the unpredictability of paint and marks it can make.”
Ali has used the Peacock Arts Trail as a springboard to throw herself back into her art. “It is the first exhibition I have done and if it wasn’t so open and local I don’t know that I’d have the guts to put myself out there.” She adds, “it has given me a little bit of me back”.
